What this record is.
A NASA-sponsored study evaluating the use of higher plants in controlled ecological life-support systems. The report compares 115 plant species using 21 selection criteria and considers resource limits, cultivation and management, food processing, propagation and related system requirements.
Why it was retained.
Retained as a direct engineering precedent for selecting biological organisms as functional components of an artificial inhabited environment. It is particularly relevant to reconstruction of the original Station reserve-selection methodology and to distinguishing deliberately selected reserve organisms from later escaped or evolved Station ecotypes.
Relevance describes why the Zenovka Archive consulted this source. It does not imply that the source establishes Station canon or that its conclusions have been adopted.
