Working model

The inhabited inner surface rotates to provide Mars-like effective gravity.

The recurring Station model targets approximately Mars-like effective gravity at the inhabited equatorial surface and a day close to 24.1 hours. Rotation belongs primarily to the inhabited inner ring/sliver rather than requiring the entire outer superstructure to corotate. The surrounding bulk structure may therefore remain comparatively static while the inhabited surface moves through structural and service interfaces.

The target values are working constraints, not yet a final dynamics solution. They depend directly on the adopted approximately 1.5 million km inhabited radius recorded in 600.20:10:01.

Passive engineering

Rotation is stored state, not a service that must be continuously supplied.

A major recovered design conclusion is that the Station does not need active machinery merely to keep rotating. Once the enormous rotating mass has acquired angular momentum in vacuum, stopping it is itself the difficult operation. Ring adjusters, bearings, electromagnetic alignment systems and motor points maintain geometry, clearance and controlled relationships; they are not imagined as engines that must continuously recreate gravity.

This distinction changes the failure model. Loss of active adjustment is serious because clearances can close, rings can drift and interfaces can collide, but it does not cause an immediate loss of artificial gravity. The fundamental rotational state persists through local control failures.

Failure behaviour

Misalignment tends toward mechanical degradation, not instantaneous station-wide stoppage.

Buffer rings between the inhabited ring and static Station structure were discussed as numerous thin, segmented layers. By Zenovka's era some may already have fallen out of alignment and fused after collision while the Station remains broadly operational. This supports a deliberately non-binary architecture: individual interfaces can be lost without requiring the rotating inhabited mass to stop.

A severe limiting case discussed was progressive fusion between rotating and nominally static structure. The working intuition is not that the Station simply stops, but that angular momentum is redistributed into a larger coupled mass, producing a slower rotating assembly while dissipating immense energy locally. This is a qualitative failure model only; the stresses, heating and survivability of such an event have not been solved and must not be treated as established engineering.

Structural relationship

Many interfaces distribute alignment and fault tolerance.

The ring architecture has been explored as many thin rings or watch-strap-like segments, with roughly kilometre-scale layers in some working discussions, electromagnetic repulsion/alignment, an inner liner and horizontal slip-ring interfaces. Many motor or adjustment points avoid dependence on a single drive mechanism. These structural details belong principally under 600.20:30; they are repeated here only where they explain the rotational failure model.

Consequences

Gravity joins the Station's deliberately passive systems.

The recovered reasoning places artificial gravity alongside other architecture intended to continue through neglect. The Station's survival is therefore not equivalent to every subsystem remaining healthy. A maintenance intelligence can concentrate on preventing destructive contact, maintaining inhabited localities and managing faults rather than continuously sustaining the basic existence of gravity.

Uncertainty and provenance

Preserve the distinction between principle and calculation.

The persistence of angular momentum, separation of rotating inhabited surface from static superstructure, Mars-like gravity target and near-24-hour day are recurring working design elements. Exact ring mass, rotational velocity, bearing/interface design, coupling events and spin-down behaviour remain unresolved. Development discussions that produced or revise these choices belong in 400; real rotating-habitat and structural-dynamics sources used to test them belong in 700.
